Security and continuity Detect and learn

Monitoring and response

Without logging and alerts, an incident only shows up through its effects.

Useful records, risk-based signals and a cycle of detection, containment, recovery and continuous improvement.

Record what supports a decision

Security logs answer what happened, when, in which context and with what result. Repeated authentication, authorization and validation failures are the most useful signals for recognizing abuse.

Recording everything without criteria creates volume and increases the risk of retaining sensitive data. Content should match its purpose and exclude passwords, tokens and unnecessary information.

Detect and contain with context

One event may be normal; repetition, combinations or deviation from expected behavior may require attention. Useful alerts include context for prioritization and an owner to assess them.

Response limits the reach through blocking, revocation or isolation while preserving evidence. The measure follows the impact and may happen before a complete explanation is available.

Recover and incorporate the lesson

Recovery means restoring a trusted condition, not merely making the page respond again. Data, permissions, integrations and behavior need verification.

The team then reviews cause, impact and gaps. Lessons may change code, policies, alerts, documentation or the way a restoration is tested.
